Cessna Citation Latitude Continues to Meet Milestones; First Flight for Second Production Aircraft

(Cessna Aircraft Company)Cessna Aircraft Company, a subsidiary of Textron Aviation Inc., a Textron Inc. company, announced a successful first flight of the company’s second production Citation Latitude aircraft (Serial 002). This flight marks the latest in a series of on-time milestones for the program, all of which have occurred on or ahead of schedule.  

Serial 002 is the third Citation Latitude to join the certification flight test program and is the first aircraft that will be equipped with an operational configuration, including full cabin layout and systems. It will also be the first Citation Latitude exhibited to the public, making its debut in October at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) annual event in Orlando.

GAMA Notes FAA Deadline to Begin Evaluation of Unleaded AvGas

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) today noted the July 1 deadline for candidate fuels to be submitted to the FAA for testing through the Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative (PAFI) process. The agency received ten replacement fuel proposals from the world’s fuel producers, including submissions from Afton Chemical Company, Avgas LLC, Shell, Swift Fuels, and a consortium made up of BP, TOTAL, and Hjelmco.

“The July 1 deadline marked one step closer to eventually transitioning to an unleaded avgas in our piston-engine fleet,” GAMA President and CEO Pete Bunce said. “This development is a key milestone for ensuring the continued safety of our aircraft, benefiting the environment, and minimizing the economic disruption to our industry.”

EAA AirVenture Cup Race

400 nm Race Departs from Mitchell, South Dakota

(Geoff Sobering/Moving-Target-Photos.com)This July, fast airplanes, race pilots, and aviation enthusiasts will once again be descending upon Mitchell Municipal Airport (KMHE) in S. Dak. in advance of the 17th annual EAA AirVenture Cup.

This year’s race started from KMHE with a mandatory turn point over Mankato, Min (KMKT). Pilots then set course, throttle wide open, to the finish line in Wausau, Wisc. (KAUW), for a total of just over 400 statute miles.

The EAA AirVenture Cup Race provides builders and pilots an opportunity to race their aircraft in a safe and fun environment, all while promoting aviation in and over the communities where the races are held.

EAA Scholarship Deadlines Fast Approaching

EAA administers several flight-training scholarships that can help offset training costs and get you flying! The deadline is near for several offerings, and EAA encourages student pilots to apply in time to be considered.

The scholarships include:

  • ForeFlight Scholarship (two, $7,500 each) – application deadline: June 30
  • Tinker Murdock Flight Training Award (up to $7,500) – application deadline: July 4
  • Richard Harper Flight Training Scholarship ($7,500) – application deadline: July 4
  • Karen Johnson Solo Scholarship ($3,000) – application deadline: July 10
  • GoPro “Go Fly” Scholarship ($7,500) – application deadline: July 15
  • WAI Oshkosh Chapter Spirit of Flight Scholarship ($500) – application deadline: July 19
