THE DOUGLAS SBD DAUNTLESS WILL BE ON DISPLAY AND IS SCHEDULED TO FLY AT 12PM!
 
EVENT: LIVING HISTORY FLYING DAY
SATURDAY, October 6th  ~ 10am
Featuring the Douglas SBD Dauntless! A speaker panel of  distinguished veterans, aviation experts and historians is featured followed by a question & answer period. The Douglas SBD Dauntless will be on display and is scheduled to perform a flight demonstration.
At 12:00 noon, the Raffle Flight will occur. Become a member to enter the Raffle. All members are eligible to enter but you must be present to win.

Staff Sergeant Sidney H. Zimman, USMC (Ret.) will be one of our guest speakers for this event. On May 18, 1942, Sidney H. Zimman enlisted in the Marine Corps in Detroit, Michigan and fought in the South Pacific, including the Air Battle over Rabaul. He was an SBD Dauntless dive bomber gunner who flew 40 combat missions. For his service, he was awarded the numerous medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Mark Carlson is a San Diego historian, author and popular speaker. He has had more than two hundred articles published in fifteen national military and aviation magazines. A longtime supporter of Planes of Fame, Carlson has spoken about aviation in the movies and other warbird topics. Today he will be relating one of the last mysteries of the Pacific War: Why the Hornet’s air wing failed to bomb or even find the huge Japanese strike force at the Battle of Midway on 4 June 1942. Carlson will be presenting this gripping story accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation.
